Dear Friends and Colleagues,
EverCare at Home is proud to announce that a free conference highlighting the 11th Annual Hudson Valley World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will take place on Friday, June 14th at Dutchess Community College (53 Pendell Road, Poughkeepsie, NY). The conference is being organized by EverCare at Home and the World Elder Abuse Awareness Committee, in cooperation with the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, Dutchess County Adult Protective Service, and the Dutchess County Government. The conference is open to the entire Hudson Valley Region.
As our elderly population increases, elder abuse and other crimes against older persons are also on the rise. It is critical to know how to recognize elder abuse and how to get help if you are a victim or you suspect someone you know is being abused. A recent study of elder abuse prevalence in New York State found that 76 out of every 1,000 older New Yorkers are victims of elder abuse each year. The reported incidence rate is nearly 24 times greater than the number of referred cases. This suggests that many elders are not seeking, or getting the assistance they need. Last year’s conference was a great success, with over 500 in attendance. This year, we expect again to welcome a great turnout of community members, elected officials, and professionals to the conference.
We invite you to join as a conference registrant, sponsor or charitable contributor and take action against elder abuse. We also ask that you share the event details on your social media outlets and websites to help spread the word about this important event.
The net proceeds from this conference will be used by EverCare at Home to further education and awareness of elder abuse throughout our region.
Respectfully,
Dana Pavelock
