  • Poughkeepsie Day School Embarks on First Year as an IB Candidate School

Poughkeepsie Day School is proud to announce that we have officially begun our first year as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme. This milestone marks an exciting chapter in our long-standing commitment to whole-child, ambitious academics and authentic learning experiences. Becoming an IB candidate school is significant not only for PDS but for the children and families of the Mid-Hudson Valley, offering a globally recognized, inquiry-based curriculum that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning from an early age.

Since announcing our candidacy last school year, the school has seen a steep rise in inquiries and applications, reflecting the excitement in the community about this next chapter. PDS anticipates becoming a fully accredited IB World School by the 2027–28 school year.

While we embrace this forward-looking vision, we are also honoring the rich legacy that has shaped PDS over decades. Our educators are building upon the school’s tradition of fostering creativity, collaboration, and a deep engagement with ideas, while integrating IB frameworks that provide consistency and rigor across all grade levels. The goal is to ensure each child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them to navigate a complex and interconnected world.

PDS is currently enrolling students from PreK through Grade 8, welcoming families who value an education that challenges students to reach their potential while nurturing their individuality. We look forward to combining the best of our past with the promise of an IB future—preparing the next generation of thoughtful, engaged, and capable learners.
